Our Approach & Philosophy |
Our Mission |
| The mission of the Oliver-Pyatt Centers is to genuinely connect with each individual, to address the core issues driving the eating disorder, and to provide the tools needed to live a meaningful life, free from food and weight preoccupation. Our treatment for anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorders is therapeutically grounded, and incorporates state of the art approaches, research, outcome data, and up to date medical knowledge. Our innovative protocols are based on a thorough understanding of eating disorders and the unique experience of each person affected by an eating disorder. |
All aspects of our program and treatment are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. From meal planning to therapeutic goals to body movement, our multi-disciplinary treatment team aims to individualize treatment for each client.
We hold weekly Individual Reflection and Intention Setting Treatment Team Meetings with the client, her individual therapist, her recovery coach and our clinical director to provide an opportunity for reflection and reinforcement of the individual’s therapeutic process. Individualized goals and objectives are agreed upon for the coming week, and the client and treatment team discuss and process the work of the previous week. |
| We believe that one-on-one therapy is the cornerstone of effective eating disorder treatment, and it is the cornerstone of our program. Each client receives a minimum of six individual therapy sessions each week. |
| Clients are taught how to hear their authentic inner voice through the "mindful eating" approach, to listen to their body and to re-learning the important and vital skill of internally regulated, hunger-driven eating. |
| Our treatments engage and incorporate the real world. Clients are regularly accompanied into the local community to shop for groceries and clothing, dine in restaurants, and share in meal preparation. |
Co-occurring Conditions |
| Many people continue to struggle with their eating disorders because undiagnosed and/or under treated psychiatric illnesses have not been correctly identified or managed. Founded by a board certified psychiatrist, the Oliver-Pyatt Centers offer support in identifying and addressing co-occurring psychiatric and/or medical conditions. Upon admission, a thorough psychiatric assessment will be conducted. If the individual is already under the care of a psychiatrist before entering our program, we will work closely with him or her to make sure that the co-occurring condition(s) is properly addressed. |
Multi-disciplinary approach |
| Eating disorders are complex diseases, and different health care professionals are needed to treat the various aspects of the disease. Our treatment team consists of licensed therapists, medical doctors and nurses, and registered dieticians—all specializing in eating disorder treatment. |
Family and Treatment |
| We consider support and education for the whole family to be a priority. From family therapy sessions with the client, to family support and education, to providing additional resources, we offer the client’s family an acknowledged place in the treatment process. Prior to discharge, we will work with you to develop a family action plan, a unique aspect of our program. |
Respect |
| Working within an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect and care, our experienced therapeutic staff is committed to exploring and understanding the core issues critical to each client’s meaningful recovery. We are committed to understanding the individual client, providing a high quality treatment experience, and assisting each individual through her personal struggles. |
