Day Treatment Programs at Oliver-Pyatt Centers

For the individual who needs more intensive and consistent support than is possible with traditional outpatient or intensive outpatient treatment, our Day Treatment Program provides a comprehensive and intensive program for relief from eating disordered behavior. Our program’s foundation is based on a high frequency of individual psychotherapy. This, in combination with individualized nutritional monitoring and the compassionate support of our multidisciplinary treatment team, gives our clients an ability to manage the emotional experience of interrupting the eating disorder behavior and the power to create new pathways.

For individuals coming to us from an outpatient setting, we will prevent further harmful effects of the eating disorder, which left unattended could place an individual in a more medically and psychologically compromised state, possibly requiring 24 hour care.

For clients who have graduated from 24 hour residential or inpatient treatment, we provide the support and structure an individual needs to step back into her life, reinforcing gains, developing new skills, and helping her reintegrate into the daily routines of life.

For all of our clients, we provide the resources and tools to uncover the origins of their eating disorder, opening them to compassionate self awareness and insight. We teach the skills necessary to find meaning outside of the pursuit of thinness and help clients find the strength necessary to change and recover from their eating disorders.

At the Oliver-Pyatt Centers, we provide the staff, support, structure, innovative therapies and approaches required to help our clients overcome their eating disorder. Doing what it takes to help each individual recover and find new meaning in her life is our mission. We consider the opportunity to be a part of each person’s journey and recovery process to be sacred.

Community and Treatment

No more than 8 clients are enrolled in our Day Treatment Program at a time, and a Primary Therapist and a Recovery Coach are assigned to each client upon her admission. The Recovery Coach is available throughout the day to provide comfort, guidance and support, helping clients to notice and reflect on the behaviors that will be addressed in the recovery process.

Each client receives 6 individual therapy sessions each week. These six one-on-one sessions consist of three weekly sessions with the Primary Therapist, one weekly session with the Clinical Director, one weekly session with the Registered Dietician, and one Intention Setting and Reflection Treatment Team Meeting held with the client, her Recovery Coach, the Clinical Director, and the Primary Therapist. An individual Recovery Coach meeting is also held each week to help the client assess their process, progress and areas of work. To enhance the mind/body connection, each client also experiences a weekly therapeutic massage.

Additional individual sessions to address specific areas of concern may be recommended; common examples include specific treatments to address trauma, exercise addiction and specific body image concerns.

Day Treatment Programs vary enormously in foundation and approach, ability to provide services, and hours of operation. Because of this, they vary in their capacity to effectively treat the eating disorder.
