Why the Oliver-Pyatt Centers?

Where you choose to go for treatment is the most important decision you will make in your recovery process.

I made the decision to open the Oliver-Pyatt Centers because while treating patients with eating disorders, I saw many individuals who previously had negative treatment experiences. They had not recovered, and their eating disorder had become more deeply entrenched. This experience led them to believe that recovery was impossible—that treatment did not work. What they did not realize was that they had not failed treatment—treatment had failed them.

At the Oliver-Pyatt Centers, we believe that quality eating disorder treatment which maximizes the opportunity for full recovery is comprised of the following:
#1

Daily One-On-One Therapy Sessions

High Frequency Individual Therapy promotes a relationship between therapists and client where the core issues driving the eating disorder can be explored. It creates an environment in the treatment setting which validates each individual’s needs and worth—so that authentic and long-term recovery can occur.  Many treatment centers are able to provide the structure needed to support normal eating during treatment, but unless these core issues are addressed, the individual is at risk for returning to the eating disordered behavior once she leaves treatment. At the Oliver-Pyatt Centers, every client in our day-treatment program has at least six individual sessions per week.
#2

An Intimate Environment With A High Staff To Client Ratio

At each Oliver-Pyatt Center, we have a maximum of 8 clients in each of our programs (Day Treatment or Intensive Outpatient).  Each primary therapist has a maximum of 4 Day Treatment patients at any given time. We believe this kind of environment fosters an individual’s ability to do the difficult work required of real recovery, and to authentically connect to members of the treatment team.
#3

A Naturalistic Environment

We believe that real world exposure during treatment, with the support of our treatment team, is a key factor in avoiding relapse after treatment ends. From restaurant meals to buying clothes to dealing with urges to over-exercise, supported exposure therapy during community outings is a key component of our program.
#4

A Highly Individualized Treatment Plan

We believe that the road to recovery for each individual is unique. Every aspect of our treatment, from the meal plan to the therapeutic goals, is tailored to meet the needs of the individual client.
#5
