Our program

Intensive Out-Patient Treatment

Our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program provides an experienced, specialized multidisciplinary treatment team, individualized treatment, a structured approach and supported meals within a supportive recovery environment. It is designed to provide an effective treatment experience for individuals who are in an earlier stage of an eating disorder experience or who can be appropriately stepped down from a higher level of care to our structured program. It is designed to interrupt and reverse the progression of an eating disorder earlier on and to prevent the eating disorder from taking a further toll on the person’s body, mind and spirit.

Exposure Therapy

The person with an eating disorder needs restoration of nutrition to her body, and careful, managed exposure to the food and body image-critical situations she fears, in order to overcome her extreme reactions to food. In spite of intentions for recovery, a person experiencing an eating disorder can find it very difficult to carry out the behavior she sets out to achieve—to eat at all, or to eat without purging, over-exercising or compensating, -- without significant support before, during and after meals. A less intensive outpatient regimen, even with an experienced, well-trained therapist, may not be a powerful enough force to overcome the eating disorder.

Exposure therapy can apply to any type of phobia a person may experience. In the case of an eating disorder, the phobia/fears center around food and body, and exposure needs to occur to the feared situation---eating.

Community and Treatment

To facilitate an environment conducive to recovery, and to provide the individual attention each person deserves and needs, our Intensive Outpatient Program has a maximum of 8 clients. Specialized groups which address all areas of recovery, including body image, DBT skills, expressive arts, movement and yoga, supported meals, cognitive approaches, and family support, are provided. Individual therapy needs will be assessed and put into place according to individual circumstances and needs of each client. All these elements—our multidisciplinary team, our focused groups and our supported meals-- all set in a environment of healing, are here to help our clients restore the joy and meaning in life that their eating disorders have taken away.
